A fresh controversy has erupted around Ranveer Singh, with a second complaint filed against the Dhurandhar star for allegedly mocking the sacred Tulu daiva tradition during the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

The complaint, submitted by Bengaluru-based High Court advocate Prashanth Methal, accuses the actor of disrespecting the revered spirit-worship practices depicted in Rishab Shetty’s Kantara films—despite Ranveer having already issued a public apology over the incident.

What the New Complaint Alleged

According to The Hindu, the complaint was lodged at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru. Advocate Methal stated in writing that Ranveer Singh’s performance at IFFI on November 28 was a “mockery” of the sacred daiva tradition practiced widely in coastal Karnataka.

He further claimed that the Bollywood actor mimicked the Panjuluri/Guliga daiva in a manner that was “crude, derogatory, and comical,” causing “deep hurt” to Hindu sentiments, particularly within the Tulu community.

The complaint also pointed out that Ranveer allegedly referred to the daiva as a “female ghost,” which the petitioner described as “blasphemous” and a sign of “deliberate disrespect.” Methal has requested the police to initiate legal action against the actor.

Earlier Complaint Filed in Goa

This is the second such complaint following the one submitted on December 1 by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) at the Panaji police station. In that complaint, HJS accused Ranveer of insulting the Chavundi daiva through his on-stage mimicry.

Ranveer Singh’s Response

The incident triggered widespread backlash after a video of the performance went viral. Responding to the controversy, Ranveer Singh issued an apology on social media, saying:

“My intention was to highlight Rishab’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene the way he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.”

Despite the apology, fresh complaints indicate that the matter continues to escalate, with cultural groups demanding accountability for what they consider a violation of religious and traditional sentiments.
